Plasma surface treatment is a new dry treatment technology using gas glow or sub-glow discharge, which can not only change the surface structure of the material, control the physical properties of the interface, but also perform surface coating on demand so that it can be used in paper packaging, glass, silica gel, metal, ceramics, plastics, natural fibers, functional polymer films, and other surface treatments have huge application prospects, and talk about some of the characteristics of plasma surface treatment, there are the following:

1. Plasma surface treatment is dry treatment, environmentally friendly and pollution-free

Since plasma surface treatment is a dry process, most of the consumables used are common gases, including compressed air, oxygen, argon, nitrogen, and other industrial gases, eliminating the need for drying, Wastewater treatment and other processes have the advantages of energy-saving, environmental protection, and no pollution.

2. The thickness of the plasma surface treatment is at the nanometer level, which does not destroy the material properties

Compared with other dry processes such as rays, lasers, electron beams, corona treatment, etc., the uniqueness of plasma surface treatment is that the depth of its action only involves a weak layer on the surface of the substrate, generally about a few feet away from the surface. In the range of ten to thousands of angstroms, the physical properties of the interface can significantly improve, but the bulk phase of the material is not affected.

3. Plasma surface treatment is more effective than corona treatment

People usually confuse plasma discharge with corona discharge. The corona treatment method usually ionizes the air directly under the condition of close to atmospheric pressure. When dealing with polymer materials, corona treatment is easy to remove a layer of several microns thick on the material's surface. Therefore, it is easy to thin the film layer or even through the opening when the film is processed. Therefore, the thickness of the film treated by the corona method needs to be above 25 μm, and the plasma surface treatment is more suitable for films of fewer than 20 μm.

In addition to the requirements for film thickness, corona treatment usually also requires film materials. Corona treatment equipment has a good treatment effect on conventional plastic films. The adhesive strength after the treatment is not ideal for films such as imine. Plasma treatment can effectively improve the adhesive strength, and the same is true for the pretreatment of plastic film metallization.

In addition to enhancing bond strength, the effect of plasma treatment lasts longer. Bonding after corona treatment generally occurs within a week of treatment, while plasma surface treatment effects can last several months.
